How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Loving, sweet, fun, eager to please and cute, are just a few ways you will be counting how much you love Whisper. Whisper's coloring matches a German Shepherd Dog but her muzzle and body style do not. Her muzzle is actually thicker than what the pictures show. Her fur is so soft! We think she may also have some Sharpei and Beagle too, but it doesn't matter what breed she is, we think Whisper is pretty special no matter what! Whisper loves other dogs - she was playing so well with another foster (Melody) that the volunteers moved them in together and now they snuggle with each other every night. She is good with children and would do great in a home with or without them. She doesn't pay any attention to her foster's cat, she has great house manners and is just about all house trained (she hasn't had any accidents in the house for over a week). Whisper will lay at her foster's feet for hours, while they watch TV or she will jump up and snuggle next to one of them in the recliner. We recommend Whisper attend obedience training, as it will help her with her manners and commands.

Whisper has quite the rescue story. Whisper and her entire litter were dumped near the home of a former volunteer. The volunteer found homes for several of them and then brought Whisper and her two siblings to the shelter. When they were heartworm tested, the other two were cleared to be adopted, but Whisper was heartworm positive. Sadly, the shelter does not treat dogs who are heartworm positive. Whisper was brought to the vet to be euthanized and was quiet in her crate for most of the day - that was until she saw the dog across the hall that was just neutered. She became so excited and barked and wagged her tail repeatedly, acting like she was over-joyed to see him. The dog looked just like Whisper and seemed to be around the same age. It turned out that the dog was Whisper's brother. His owner stated that she had adopted him from the former volunteer who originally found the abandoned litter. No one had to tell Whisper who was her family, her heart led her right to her brother. After that, how could anyone let Whisper down? Whisper has already proved to be loyal to her brother and is going to make a loyal family member for a very lucky person or family.

Medical Note: When Whisper came into rescue, she tested positive for heartworm disease.  Whisper has been treated and tested negative for microfilaria in July 2016. She is now ready to travel north and be adopted! To learn more about heartworm disease, please visit : https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. P lease discuss any concerns with your veterinarian.

SPONSORSHIP: This dog's heartworm treatment expenses have been generously sponsored by Heart Help. Proper treatment for heartworm disease can take hundreds of dollars and several months - two precious resources that can be very hard to find for homeless dogs. **Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
