Who wouldn't want this little one to join their family! Meet Zeus, one of the six siblings (4 males and 2 females) from the "Patriot" litter. Zeus is about 10 months old - very sweet, very friendly and very active. He has a beautiful, short-haired russet coat and warm, soulful eyes. He's also slender and lanky like the Whippet breed. He's truly stunning! He tries so hard to please and it's just so endearing! Zeus loves human attention - he bonds quickly and really just wants to be near his people and sit in a lap, cuddle and give kisses. He's learning commands and is very interested in meeting new people and eager to learn new things. He's doing well with leash walking and is now house trained. He follows his foster mom everywhere - he loves to snooze at her feet while she works from home. Zeus loves to play with other dogs and  would likely do best if he went to a home with a playful, calm dog; this is not required but it might make the transition easier. We recommend a home with an active person or family with older dog-respectful children as Zeus has a lot of energy. He loves running around in the fenced-in yard, and chasing and playing with other playful dogs, but he can settle down, too, if you need him to. He would likely make a great agility dog if properly trained. Zeus will need continued work on his leash and basic training. A fenced-in yard would be great for him, but is not required as long as he gets plenty of play and exercise in other ways. Zeus' adopters should plan to work with a trainer to help build his confidence and teach him all the basic skills to being a good canine citizen. Zeus does sleep in a crate at night and when home alone and is just fine with this. He may whine for a few minutes initially, but then settles down and sleeps. New experiences and loud noises scare him at first, but then he's okay. He likes to play fetch and just run around. Zeus likes other dogs, people and kids! He has not been cat tested.

If you would like Zeus to join your family, please fill out an application. He is going to melt your heart!

Medical Note: Zeus was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. Zeus has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741 . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
