A sweet, gentle, shy flower is our Daisy!
We're still getting to know her and will keep updating her bio, but for now we know that she is one pretty little girl! She appears to be a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix (commonly called a Chiweenie) almost 19 months old. She's good with other dogs (she came into rescue with 23 others) but has not been introduced to kitty cats yet. She's quite shy and easily scared, but she will let you pick her up and does not try nipping or biting. She is very gentle. We think that with treats and individual attention, she'll bond with someone pretty easily, and will most likely do better once she's settled in her forever home and feels safe. At this point she doesn't seem to enjoy being petted and though she'll occasionally wag her tail, it's usually still tucked tight. She would probably be fine with older, calm, respectful children, but would most likely shy away from impulsive, noisy, small children. As with most little dogs, it usually helps to get down on their level and not just tower over them. Daisy appears to be house trained and is comfortable on a leash. She is quiet in her crate (which she loves) and rides calmly in the car while crated. Care will need to be taken around open gates and doors. If Daisy is afraid, she may try to escape. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience class and this would definitely help Daisy gain more confidence, provide some socialization with new dogs and new people, and she and her new humans could get in some quality bonding time. A fenced yard would be ideal for her as cars going by are scary to her - but if that's not an option then daily leash walks (where it's quiet) and maybe some opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park will help build her confidence and be fun outings. At this point she isn't playful - even with other dogs, but once she's settled in her forever home and feels safe, she may become so.

Daisy's dreaming of the day when she has her very own forever home and humans who will love her to pieces. Let's not keep her waiting any longer! Fill out an application today and soon you may be the one who makes her dream come true!

Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics . Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
