Say Aloha to the Aloha Pups!
The wahine (girls) – Iolana, Leilani, and Makena, and the kane (boys) – Ohea, and Molokai have arrived to steal your heart! We aren’t sure of the breed of these ʻīlio (dog in Hawaiian) but are thinking they are a Border Collie and Rat Terrier mix.
These playful pups have started potty training using a litter box and so far, so good! Crate training is in progress and leash training is on their to do list. As they are so young, they have only briefly been exposed to other dogs and they are interested! They aren’t living with kids but have met children and are playful and responsive to corrections. We don’t yet know how they are around cats. They're eager to please, toy and treat motivated little squirts, so puppy training classes will be lots of fun! The Aloha pups are pretty quiet, but you might hear them bark when playing. They love toys and are happy to chill with a ball when not playing with you!
Ohea would love to find a forever family who has lots of time and patience to raise a puppy properly, and who has lots of extra time for loving and cuddles. If you are looking for a puppy, he (or one of his littermates) may be perfect for you! Fill out an application today!
Aloha Pups' story: We don’t know a lot about these precious pups other than they were born at a rescue and are now living with a loving foster family and doing great!
Medical Note: A littermate of this dog tested positive and was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. This dog has also been preventatively treated and currently shows no symptoms of demodectic mange. Please note that demodex can have a hereditary component and/or flare up in any dog in times of stress (e.g., transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc.). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a personal or family history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months after adoption or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.
Adoption Fee: $585 To apply to adopt this dog or one of his or her littermates, please complete our adoption application at www.sosarl.org/aa/
**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
