Got Puppy Fever? Well, we've got the cure!
The COVID litter is just the answer to brighten - and liven - things up during the Age of Corona! Ollie is one of the two boys in this bunch of five pups. Initially shy with new people and new situations, he's playful, affectionate and settles quickly once he's certain all's okay. He hasn't had any "life skills" training yet, so he'll be depending on you to teach him the basics of potty training, walking on leash, and feeling comfortable and happy in his crate. This playful guy has discovered chew toys and they are his new favorite activity when he's not playing with you!
Because these puppies are currently kenneled and have not lived in a home, they'll need an adopter who will go slow and keep their world relatively small in the beginning - we don't know how they may react to a whole different set of stimuli in their new environment. A home with not a lot of people coming and going or small children would most likely be the best fit. Another well-balanced dog in the home could aid in helping them adapt. Basic group training is a must to further their socialization with other dogs and people, build their confidence and teach some basic commands. Throw some toys and treats into the mix and you'll have one happy pup!
If you're ready for some puppy cuddles, Ollie or one of his littermates is ready for you! Fill out an application today!
COVID Puppies' story: They were dumped in a rural area down a dirt road in front of an elderly couple's home. A neighbor helped them corral the pups into a stock trailer so they wouldn't get run over on the road, then they reached out to our Arkansas rescue partner for help in re-homing them.
Medical Note: This dog was treated for demodectic mange while in the SOS program. The dog has responded well to this treatment. Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian. SOS recommends that dogs with a history of demodectic mange be kept on regular NexGard or Bravecto for flea/tick prevention for at least 3 months or until 18 months of age. Please see here for more information on demodectic mange: http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/mange-demodectic-in-dogs/741. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
