Ranger is playful, gentle and eager to please!
We are thinking this handsome pup is a Dachshund mix. He loves meeting new people and exploring new places but initially can be a bit shy. He is also shy around new dogs but quickly warms up and wants to be their new best buddy. His foster family does not have cats but reports he seems only mildly interested in the ones he sees on walks. We don’t know how he is with kids, but think he should be okay with older kids since he is so gentle. As with all puppies, he'll need work on house training, crate training, and leash training, but we think he should pick up these skills quickly as he seems to be smart . He rarely barks.

Ranger was found as a stray and we don’t know how long he was on his own. A potential adopter will need to keep this in mind and go slow, work on socialization, give him plenty of exercise, and provide training and structure as he transitions to life in a forever home. He would do best in a low-key household without much foot traffic, no young children, and lots of patience and treats! An obedience course is a must; it will help teach him good manners and commands, further socialization with other dogs and people, and will help build that very important bond between a dog and his human. The more time you invest in your puppy with lots of playtime and learning time, the better behaved he will be as an adult and everyone will welcome him wherever you take him.

Ranger is a sweet boy who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make his dream come true? Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family!

Medical Note: This dog has a significant overbite, diagnosed as mandibular brachygnathism, a skeletal malocclusion due to a shortened lower jaw. While this overbite has not been observed to affect his current ability to lead a normal life and no current trauma to the soft palate has been observed, as the dog develops and ages, there are some real considerations. The general complications of malocclusion are the possibility of increased wear and periodontal disease. This dog's adopter will need to provide excellent oral care and ongoing monitoring with the possibility of more frequent dental cleanings. Nutrition should also be monitored as the dog may have (but not necessarily will have) greater difficulty with some foods. More extreme complications that are possible but less likely include the need for corrective surgery or extractions. See here for more information on this condition: https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/malocclusions-in-dogs-when-teeth-dont-align#:~:text=A%20skeletal%20malocclusion%20results%20when,(malpositioned%20tooth%2Fteeth) .

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
