This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Meet miss Montana Shirley! The four playful puppies in the Shirley litter were discovered at a rural abandoned home site in Arkansas. They have arrived in New England and are settling in nicely with loving foster families. These lab-mix Shirley puppies are very affectionate and friendly but are initially submissive and shy in new situations (new people, new dogs, and new places) but once acclimated will snuggle right up to you. They appear to chase cats and small animals and Montana can climb a 4 ft fence, so potential adopters should keep this in mind. We have not seen Montana interact with children but given her initial shyness potential adopters with young children should be able to maintain a safe space for the Montana while she acclimates to her new home slowly. Since she is from such a rural area, adopters in busier areas should expect additional acclimation time while she adjusts to the sounds and hustle-n-bustle of a city.
Montana is fairly quiet and rides well in the car - future adventure buddy in the making! She even enjoys going swimming, playing with squeaky toys, and playing bitey-mouth with other dogs. Montana is house trained, crate trained, and working on her leash skills but could use some more practice as she tends to zig-zag. Her foster mom says, "she is
absolutely amazing!"
We recommend that you and Montana sign up for some dog training classes together, ideally in the first 60 days or so of bringing her home. Group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends.
