Meet miss Maggie Shirley! 
The four playful puppies in the Shirley litter were discovered at a rural abandoned home site in Arkansas. Maggie has arrived in New England and is settling in nicely with a loving foster family. These lab-mix Shirley puppies are very affectionate and friendly but are initially submissive and shy in new situations (new people, new dogs, and new places) but once acclimated they will snuggle right up to you. They appear to chase cats and small animals, so potential adopters should keep this in mind. Maggie has been exposed to kids and was great with them but given her initial shyness, potential adopters with young children should be able to maintain a safe space for her while she acclimates to her new home slowly. Since she is from such a rural area, adopters in busier areas should expect additional acclimation time while she adjusts to the sounds and hustle-n-bustle of a city. 

 

She is fairly quiet, but Maggie tends to drool while in the car and could use some additional positive reinforcement/confidence building in this area. She enjoys going swimming, playing with squeaky toys, and playing bitey-mouth with other dogs. Maggie is a smart girl that recently completed crate training. Her house and leash training are in progress, and so far, so good!

 

We recommend that you and Maggie sign up for some dog training classes together, ideally in the first 60 days or so of bringing her home. Group training classes are a great way to reinforce important skills, learn some new tricks, and get some quality socialization time with other furry friends.
