Hello!  My name is Patch.  I am looking for my forever home and I would like to tell you a bit about me.  After all, inviting someone into your home is a big deal and you probably want to know what you are getting into with that invitation!  I hope you will read my story.

I was born in Arkansas, and I had a lot of brothers and sisters.  I don't know how my mom did it with all of us!  It was hard, especially since some of us were very, very sick.  Some of us even died.  I was very sad, and so was my Mom.  But I took my medicine, and I got better slowly. Yes, it took a long time but, remember, the important part - I got better!  And so did many of my brothers.  Finally, we were ready...ready for what you ask?  Well, at the time, I didn't know it but there were big plans for us - we were headed out of the South to a place called the Ocean State!  I liked the sound of that because I love to sunbathe so I knew I would fit in at the beach. But they forgot to mention that the Ocean State was so far away...I had to spend a long time on a truck getting here.  It was scary.  I try not to think about that and instead I concentrate on the day they opened the doors, and I was in Rhode Island!  Since then, I have met so many wonderful humans.  They have names like Emma and Nina, Anna, Aly and Trisha.  All of them have cared for me while I wait for my forever home.  At night, they tuck me in, and they tell me stories of what my forever home will be like; I imagine it as I drift off to sleep and I get so excited! 

The humans I stay with say I am a really good puppy.  I am about four months old, and everyone is so surprised at how well behaved I am for such a little one.  I stay in my crate at night and during the day I play quietly by myself, I bathe in the house's sunny spots, or I go to Nina's puppy play group.  At play group, I sometimes see my brothers...reunion!  Other times I just play with other pups from other litters.  I like them so much, especially that little black colored pup called "Inspire".  I am sort of sweet on him...

My foster Mom does so many things with me!  I hope you have seen the video that she helped make with her fancy camera phone.  You can see me walking on a leash, getting a bath and riding in a car!  These are all new experiences for me, but I don't mind - in fact, I like them!  My foster Mom has had other dogs, and she says I am extra special because of how calm and accepting I am of these things (that's a big word but I think it means something really, really good!)  She also says she loves the way I bring joy and a positive attitude to everything I do. (again, with the big words!)  There is a fenced in yard in my foster neighborhood and I go there to play with kids, adult dogs and my foster Mom's neighbors.  I love them all but l especially like the kids.  They run and they play with my toys with me.  I really like to run, and my foster Mom says I am so fast.  I am learning to chase balls and I am starting to get that she wants me to bring them back so we can play again.  It's hard though - sometimes I just want to chew the ball by myself.  Everyone needs some "me" time, right?

I am working really hard on my crate training. I settle quickly when I go in at night, as long as I can see my foster Mom.  I need to know that I am with my people.  I left my own Mom, and I lost some family members so I get anxious when I can't see her.  It's fun to love people so much!  My favorite thing is to be held and snuggle and snooze. If my Mom or her friends are on the couch, I waste no time. When I see a vacant lap, I take it for my own!  I am small compared to my brothers and the best thing about that is I fit in everyone's laps easily.  If the human lets me kiss their face, that's an extra bonus because I love to LOVE!  Everyone asks if I have accidents in the house and the answer is yes, I am a puppy!  But they are so few and far between because I know I am supposed to do that outside.  I love to please people and I see how happy they are when I go outside.  It's only a matter of time before I am 100% crate trained. And I know this to be true because I learned how to do “sit” very quickly!  The humans said I am A+.

So that's who I am.  My name is Patch because of my pretty coloring (a lot of people say I look like the Little Rascals dog or even the SOS logo!!!) but you can change that if you take me home.  Once I am in your family, I will be your dog and I will start my new life.  I would love it if you had kids in your family but really the most important thing is that you have cuddly people in your family and if it's just me and one other human, we two together will make a family.  Family is everything to me.  I hope to see you on March 30th for the next adoption event; I may be a little nervous to meet you because who doesn't get nervous when the biggest day of your life is ahead of you!?  But I hope you will give me a chance because I am a very, very good dog.  Love, Patch

Medical Note:  This dog is being treated/has been treated for demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition. The dog has responded well to this treatment and is ready for adoption, though may still have some bald patches and/or thin fur in places.  Please note that demodex can flare up in any dog in times of stress (eg, transport, transition to a new home, change in food, etc). As such, the adopter is advised to discuss this condition and best next steps with their veterinarian.
