Meet Sampson, an adult Boxer mix with a heart full of joy. His sweet nature is infectious, making everyone he meets feel like the most important person in the world. Sampson is the embodiment of playfulness. He's always up for a friendly romp with other dogs or with you! Children? He adores them! Cats? Not so much!
Sampson is a confident boy, not letting anything hold him back, not even his deafness. He communicates through his expressive eyes and joyful jumps, showing that love needs no words. A potential adopter will need to be open to work with a professional trainer to teach Sampson hand commands and recall (aka doggie sign language). The first 6-12 months will likely be a lot of hard work and be quite challenging at times, but will pay off with sweet and loving companion. Adopt Sampson, and you'll gain a loyal companion who will fill your home with happiness and love.
Note: Sampson’s adoption comes with a GoodPup training scholarship.
Sampson’s story: He was found severely neglected with very thin body condition. His resilience has been nothing short of amazing, putting on needed weight and blossoming into a loving companion.
Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment, and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.
Medical Note: This dog has tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia. This does not mean that this dog had/has an active infection of ehrlichiosis, only that the dog was exposed or infected in the past. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and is being treated/has been treated preventatively with a 28-day course of doxycycline. This dog is ready for adoption, though may continue to test positive for exposure to ehrlichia for some time. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia, and please check with your vet before you apply to adopt this dog if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history.
An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this.

**Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
